Struggling for existence

Do you guys realize all of us are just struggling to exist? Hahah how silly but so true.. I would like to give credit to my teacher Bhante Punaji for giving such a wonderful quote "Stuggling for existence".

This is my version point of view in this matter.

Let's start it with this way from your birth till your death. When you were born out of your mother's womb, you cried out loud. For what reason? Reason is: you are going to live a life of uncertainty and will die for certain. You have an estimate life expectancy of 80 years old, and subject to sick, disease and old age. When you were an infant and adolescence, your mama and papa gave you food so you could be strong and healthy girl and boy. You cried out loud if you were not given anything to eat from your parents, knowing that if you didn't eat you would die.

When we grew up as a teenager, we study hard, we go college, we go university, we go for higher educations, all because of one reason, to exist. Because the higher our education background, the higher our income would be. We study because we want to find good paying job. Therefore we would think that we can have a better life. We would use our income to buy clothes, shelters and most importantly food in order to exist, knowing that if we didn't have these items we would die.

Then you would start to look for a partner. You need this so-called love to lead a happy life. Both of you and partner had sex and produced baby, and started a family. One day you realised that, you have to take care of your family and the income you are earning is not enough. So you work extra hard, overtime, to earn more income so that you can feed your children and wife, and of course your own stomach. We are struggling to exist.

You do this until you are 55 and retire. When you have gotten your Employee Providence Fund (EPF), you are excited that you have this lump sum of money to spend. According to EPF statistic, most retired people spent all of their funds in 3 years time. Then most of you all do not want to die, because you're only 58 years old. So you work again, part-time or full time. But your old age is catching up with you, you started to feel sick, have various kind of diseases. You go to look for doctor for medicine, so that you won't die.

Despite of old age, you still work, because you still want to feed your stomach. Until one fine day, you couldn't grasp the last breath and you die.

SOoooo... interesting facts of life heh? Every problems in our world are all rooted up to the problem of existing. Let's take examples:

1) We have tests, exams, assignment in our college. We struggle to read, burn the midnight oil. For what? So that we can score great grades. For what? So that we can get a degree. For what? So that we can get a good job. For what? So that we can get high income. For what? So that we can spend on food and shelters. For what? So that we can exist... All this leads to our survival in this piece of land called Earth.

2) We face difficulties in our work. Tonnes of workloads, office politic, arguments with boss. Despite of these, you still want to keep your job, because you want security. You need the income to exist...

3) Crimes has been an epidemic in our society. Why? Because the criminals need to survive! So they, steal, rob, break in. Criminals who rape, they need sexual gratifications. Criminals who kill, because they do not want to be killed so that they can exist!

Think about it... the struggling for existence... life is uncertain, death is certain.

Do you think you should do something far more important than this struggles?

Kudos :)

Haha hello yee chien. Haha i wouldn't say we enjoy struggling, but we used to struggle so much until we "addicted" to it. If we don't have struggles, we might not feel comfortable. Thanks for your comment!

Hello wilson! Yes daniel no struggle in life we'll be dead. But don't you think we also will die after all the struggling we've been thru. So why exist at all?

bro,

Despite your long essay, it proved that you listen to Bhante Punaji’s dharma talk.
Dammit every day we (or rather u or I) trying very very hard to exist. Craving for air, food, money, politics and pleasure still not sufficient to fulfill our needs…. Crave for dharma ….. :P …. When you planning blog in PALI?

Hello sister sakila! Yup, i do enjoy Bhante Punaji's talk. One of the wisest men i've met and enlightening talks he gave.

It's true, human's cravings are bottomless. Even craving for dharma is some sort of greed also. Remember once you build a raft to cross the river, leave it behind for somebody to use. Don't carry it along.

aha... very interesting topic.. i am very interested in these kinds of views of life...

In my own buddhist teachings i learned that we all exist for a purpose, that everyone has a role to play in this world. That is how the world progresses, because of your presence that triggers chain events.

On the other hand, a new thought movement i learn in my course is that you don't live for people but yourself. This guy in the video said that "we expected some sort of blackboard up there that writes what we have to do - 'john is a handsome guy born in a rich family. He is going to ____ ' and a blank there, but because there is a blank there that's why we control our own paths in life".. interesting heh?

I guess in reply to your post.. yes, we have far important things to do than struggling daily for 'existence', perhaps instead of living for existence, we should exist for life..
And for the question 'why live at all?' hmm.. i think we are not given a choice haha... but living itself is a great pleasure. ^^

Form my point of view, people exist to live. The existence of one being is some what like living to serve others. Think about it.

Teens. When your friends ask you to do something and you don't wanna do it but you still do it instead. To maintain that friendship, I wouldn't say its to wanting to be known. You just want that relationship to not end, so you do it anyway. Get it? Share with you one of my basic principles regarding friends.

Friends are meant to be "used" beast friends aren't.

So you see. I don't quite like to used my best friends, but my normal friends that I frankly don't give a shyt about are actually being used so often that they assume that it is friendship.

Peace be with you, I'll continue the other parts later having exam in about 2hours time.
